Quietly partaking of some seed.
A rival for the goodies arrives. The cardinal goes on high alert.
The rival (a red-winged blackbird) launches an attack to drive the food competitor away.
No success. The cardinal continues to eat.
The blackbird relocates to neutral ground.
Relative status settled.
