This nice little female Green Kingfisher flew in to the brush right next to me.
That was really cool. It’s not a common bird and there aren’t very many places in the U.S. to even see it. The Green Kingfisher is the smallest of the three kingfishers in North America. It’s less than 9” long. That’s smaller than a meadowlark! The male looks like this:
