Along the way

On weekends it’s hard to find open sites in state parks; they tend to be reserved far in advance by locals.  Once a week we need to stop and hook up so we can dump and fill and do laundry anyway, so we stop at a commercial park on the weekend.  Here is tonight’s spot.

Full hookups and a small laundromat.

Right now

Right now you’re probably wondering why, if we went through Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, and Paris to get to this state park, we didn’t go through Pittsburg as well.  Well, the answer to that unasked question is that Pittsburg would have been out of the way.

You’ll likely be relieved to hear that it wasn’t out of the way for our driveabout today though.

Texas Cities

We’ll be passing through Athens and Palestine soon enough.

Caddo Lake State Park

Went by Big Pines Lodge for lunch but they’re only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The graceful ghost is looking a little decrepit.

It’s not currently in service.

The last time we were here was 2013.

The town of Uncertain.  That’s not a normal name.  We looked it up.  It was named after Uncertain Landing, a difficult spot for riverboat captains to find.

We ended up at Aseret Mexican restaurant for lunch.

Good food.  I had the Diablo Shrimp.  Smokin spicy hot.  Serenaded by the proprietor/waiter/cook/entertainer.  He even played a socially distanced Malaguena Salerosa by request.

An all-around wonderful experience.

And back to the cypress swamp.
