Divide and conquer
There are 254 counties in Texas. We haven’t made a commitment to see at least one bird in every county, but we haven’t decided not to either. In the meantime, we’ve recorded birds in every county across the southern border, and now we’ve got a straight line drawn right up through Fort Worth to the Oklahoma border.
I figure the more times we divide the state into smaller pieces, the more realistic our chances of logging birds in every county. Now we’re in Oklahoma City though. We’re doing the same thing to Oklahoma; cutting it up into smaller pieces. (There are only 77 counties in Oklahoma.)
2018 May Colorado Trip
We’ll be here for most of a week. Jacks down and full hookups. Hot showers and laundry! (And gymnastics in a couple days.)

Last year at fifty-one, we declared ourselves to be Goldener. Now, fifty-two years married today, we could be Goldenerer, or maybe Goldenest. I think we’ll go with Goldenest from now on. Judy says fifty-two years ago she married her best friend. I say lucky me. We’re at Lake Murray State Park in Oklahoma. 2018 May Colorado Trip
A few bugs on the front
But nothing like yesterday’s love-bugs! We’re at Mother Neff State Park. 2018 May Colorado Trip
It’s prairie habitat.
In bloom.
Oh darn
Love bugs.
We got in early enough we scrubbed them off before they stuck too badly. Hopefully we’re far enough north we’re out of them for the rest of this trip. Well see… Couldn’t get into any State Parks for the weekend; they’re all booked up. We’re spending the night at the KOA in Austin.
2018 May Colorado Trip Not bad. Heard a chuck-wills-widow calling tonight. Tomorrow, north again, but not as much…
