Firewood

I could see the knot at one end, but the piece was a little big.  It should be split in spite of the knot.  I hammered my hatchet into it until it couldn’t get it any further.  I couldn’t get the hatchet out either.  Henry to the rescue.  He had a hatchet too.  We hammered it in to continue the split until his hatchet was also stuck.  Now we had a piece of firewood that was a little too big with two hatchets stuck in it.  We might have to throw it in the fire like that and burn the hatchets loose. Reconsider.  Hammer wedges of wood into the piece of firewood until we could at least get the hatchets out.  Both hatchets out, two wedges of wood in.  Stuck.  We declared victory and threw the piece of wood and wedges into the fire.
