He could be right. It could be about the shoes. My knee feels better
already and I’ve only worn the new shoes for two days. How was I supposed
to know to change shoes? They used to wear out! The heels would wear out.
The soles would go bald. The tops would blow out. The soles would
separate. Who knew? None of that happened. The shoes looked fine. Now they look fine sitting
in the closet. They’ll be my gardening shoes. He might be right about not doing any exercise that hurts my knee for a
week. I took a walk. It didn’t hurt.

Got to visit with the kids. Got to play with the grandkids. That was nice.
Got the keyboard fixed (notice how much more smoothly I’m typing now?). Got
lots of errands and some work done. We went through the motorhome and picked out stuff we’ve been carrying just
in case we might need it, but had not touched in six months. We dropped it
all off at the shed. We’re traveling a little neater and lighter now. Left for Steamboat Springs. The shortest way there is up over Berthoud Pass
and through Granby. We continued east on I-70 to Wolcott instead, then
traveled north on Colorado highway 131 to Steamboat. No mountain passes on
Colorado 131. Settled in a campground on the outskirts of Steamboat. Right on the Yampa
River. The water is low and clear. Maybe we’ll get a chance to fish a
little. Every time we run across a reference to the Yampa River, we think
of our friends Bill and Marge. They used to go to the Yampa River to fish.
I don’t think they’ve been up here lately. Well, here we are on the Yampa
River, and it sure is beautiful. We’ll be here a week or so. Checked out the client location. I’ll have a
five-mile commute.

Knee news. My knee has hurt for five months, so it’s probably not going to get better
on its own. I’ve seen the physical therapist. I’ve had the massage
therapy. Time for a solid diagnosis. Time to meet with the orthopedic
surgeon. He poked, prodded, and x-rayed. He lined it all up and watched it move. He
declared it perfect. There is no meniscus tear. There are no damaged
ligaments. There isn’t even any trace of arthritis yet. I have an almost
sixty-year old perfect knee. It just hurts. He looked at my running shoes. He told me to buy some new ones. He says
running shoes are so good; runners don’t have trouble with their knees and
heels anymore. If my knee hurts, the cushioning in my shoes has gone flat
and needs to be replaced. He says if I stay off it, and get some new shoes,
it will be better in a week.

A quick week on the Front Range. Time for a couple fixes. The
microwave/convection oven quit convecting. We needed a seal replaced in the
plumbing. Richard the RV guy took care of it for us. I’ve taken over the built-in dinette in the motorhome as my office. We used
to pack up all the work stuff every evening before dinner, eat at the table,
then put it all back after. After a while, we just started eating off TV
trays in the living room and leaving the work stuff where it was. The
dinette worked as an office, but it looked messy. We remodeled. The built-in dinette is gone. We replaced it with a small
oak table. It takes up less room. There is room for my office chair to
push up under it when we drive. It makes the room bigger. It works.

Okay. I was wrong. I said we had not sent out any flyers lately to account
for that many website visits. It turns out Jamie sent out a supplemental
mailing to the Denver area. That’s the reason for the most recent bump in
website visits. Nice going Jamie. Time to move on from Glenwood Springs/Carbondale/Basalt. Been here two
weeks. The third job went well enough they volunteered to take us over to the local
public radio station to meet the Executive Director there. That was fun. A
referral before we even finished. The Roaring Fork Valley is turning into
our Western Slope home base. Time to head for Golden. Need a kid fix. Need a few things fixed. We have
a few days.
