Another driveabout

This time through the Sam Houston National Forest and Davy Crockett National Forest.

The weather is fantastic!  Days in the eighties.  Windows open.  What a delight to be able to open windows and let in the outside air without having to air condition it first!

Meanwhile, the RV Sleep Monster has struck.  We didn’t think we were behind on sleep, but at ten hours a night it appears that we’re catching up from something!

Lufkin, TX

Today’s driveabout.  A lunchtime stop at a park in Jasper.

We’re in an area formerly known as the Big Thicket.  This hyper-diverse forest encompassed the whole East Texas/Louisiana border.  Early occupants and explorers generally avoided it as too difficult.  It wasn’t impossible though, so it’s smaller now, but still wonderful.

Lufkin, TX

Couldn’t get a place to stay at a state park for the long holiday weekend.  We were lucky to even get this spot at the Lufkin KOA on short notice.  Here for three days.

The weather is good.  Rainy this morning but that stopped before we drove.  Comfortable temps.  Good trip.  Northern Bobwhite.

It’s raining again tonight.

Lake Somerville State Park

Never been here before.  We’ve already satisfied our mission of going to state parks we haven’t been to yet.

Look how far north we are.  It’s ten degrees cooler today.  Very comfortable except for the very hottest part of the day.  We like it here.  It’s totally uncrowded, but we could only get one night.  Long holiday weekend coming up.  It’s booked.

Got that nice southern Spanish moss.

The black vultures like it too.
