We don’t all think alike

 I think Trump is an intentionally ignorant self-indulgent blowhard, with the social skills of a maladjusted middle schooler; the nightmare of every normal kid; the mean girl.  We have friends who voted for Trump. We have friends who link us to conservative web sites that complain about the protesting Stoneman Douglas High School students in Florida, saying that they are too immature to know what they are talking about and should Shut Up.  We think if these kids are old enough to be hunted and killed with assault weapons, they’re probably old enough to have an opinion.  We feel the students are right to protest, to say No More Thoughts and Prayers, If You’re Not With Us You’re Against Us, to call B.S., to hold accountable the adults who should be keeping them safe, to chant Vote Them Out, to shame the politicians and the rest of the country for what they are not doing. We don’t want the pressure to let up until changes are made.  We, Judy and I, are in total support of those demonstrating Florida students, and demonstrating students nationwide.  We have arranged to be in Tucson on March 24th to attend March For Our Lives – Tucson, and show our support.  Meanwhile, we are now at Catalina State Park. 2018 Arizona Trip Map Another nice site. Another nice view. A roadrunner charging back and forth through our campsite to catch our attention.  We’re surrounded by ground squirrels commanding Henry’s attention.   It’s still dry here, but not as painfully dry as it was the last couple days in New Mexico.

Rusty’s RV Ranch

 We got the spot with the duck-pond view. With wood ducks and mandarin ducks.   And mister swan. And mom swan on an egg. I want a solar array like this in my back yard too. And this is the place where telescopes come out at night.   It’s very dark here. Until this happens.

Okay

 That’s it. We absolutely LOVE this place.  Hueco Tanks. Morning coffee. Morning view.    We would stay longer, but there are only 20 campsites and they’re fully booked.  No opportunity for us to linger.  We’ll have to drive on to another favorite place. We’ve been on backroads a lot this trip.  We took another one, Highway 9 from El Paso, TX to Rodeo, NM.  We drove a 75 mile stretch where we only saw one other car headed our direction.  (There were all of six cars headed the other direction.)  That was a lonely wonderful desert scenic highway. 2018 Arizona Trip Map Now we’re at Rusty’s RV Ranch for a couple nights.  This will be the first time this trip we’ve stayed at one place more than one night (on purpose).  After six days on the tanks, we’ll hook up to full utilities for some longer showers and laundry.  Here is an overhead view of the entire park.  It’s so spacious; no-one pushed together.  There are walking trails throughout and around the perimeter. We’re used to humidity in the upper double digits now.  It’s a little dryer than that here. We may have to consider setting up the humidifier!

 Hueco Tanks State Park (pronounced Waco)What a cool place this is.  “Hueco” means depression or bowl.  A “tank” in the desert is a pot of water, usually rainwater, that lasts long after the desert has gone dry again.  Civilizations have used this oasis for 10,000 years.  They have left traces; artifacts on the ground, and pictographs on the cliffs.  The site is so delicate that access is strictly limited, and it is allowed only with a guide in attendance.  In fact, to even enter the park, you have to watch a 15-minute video explaining how important and delicate this place is. The campground is small, but not restricted, so even though we’re not going to tour the interior and see the sights this trip, we can spend the night.  The campground looks like this.  The view from our “back-yard”. And looking back at the bus from our picnic shelter.It’s there, really. This is our first time here.  It looks worth a longer stay on another trip. 2018 Arizona Trip Map
