We were so happy

…to get that spot we could plug in and stay at the fairgrounds when we found out we couldn’t stay at the state park.  This morning, however, we found out the state park had reopened!  Yeaaa!  We’re so happy to get to go to the state park instead of the fairgrounds.    It’s not muddy here. There is so much more separation between units. … and it’s so much more scenic. There will be more campers here as they figure out the park is open again, but we practically have the place to ourselves for now.  Full hookups for the first time this trip.  Warm, calm and sunny today.  It’s all good.

The rain turned to snow

The night was cold so Henry found a way to keep warm. There wasn’t all that much snow.  It just made for a nice morning view: Finished up the day at Becky’s house.  Conner cooked up a batch of something for his mom. This is Brian working. He loves it when I take pictures of him working. We didn’t get the whole family.  We got Becky, Brian, Teigan, and Conner. Taylor and Tony are still off at school.

We’re headed to the Boulder area one day early

We have reservations at Saint Vrain State park starting Sunday.  The park is totally booked for the weekend, but surely with all this rain, someone will cancel and we’ll be able to get in. Somebody cancelled all right.  We got up this morning, had coffee and watched the news to see how much weather we were going to get.  It turns out Colorado is in the eighth day of a ten-day weather event.  They’ve had rain every day for eight days, with more rain, and snow, in the forecast.  In between weather reports on the news, we also learned that Saint Vrain State Park was evacuated in the middle of the night last night, due to flooding.  So much for our plans. Judy, of course, called around and located a spot for us at the Boulder County Fairgrounds for the entire week.  So we rolled into town from Strasburg, set up, had lunch, and set off for Becky’s house.  Matt, Lindsay and the kids drove up from Highlands Ranch for an early Mother’s Day celebration.        Weather warnings for the Denver area:We got the trifecta. We drove back to the bus nice and early to get settled before the rain turned to snow. 2015 summer trip map

What happened to the sun?

We had it when we left Texas.  We were bringing it to Colorado.  It rained all last night.  The sun didn’t come out today.  It was cloudy/drizzly/rainy all day.  No sun to be found.  We had it, but we lost it. Well what the heck.  We’re not in Kansas anymore.  We’re back in Colorado. Stopped for the night at a soggy KOA in Strasburg. 2015 summer trip map

Happy Anniversary to us!

Forty-nine years already. Had morning coffee in the windshield.  Moved to the lawn chairs outside when it had warmed up a little.  REMEMBERED it was our ANNIVERSARY!  There is no hiding from this one.  It’s not like a birthday where one of has to be nice to the other.  We each had to be nice to each other all day long. We’ve been carefully watching the weather for days.  There are thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes in a swath through Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska.  We’ve put ourselves just over the western edge of all the severe weather alerts so far.  Our weather has been a little blustery, but nothing serious. Drove a couple hours north on Highway 83.  Past waving fields of grain.  Past Liberal, Kansas.  The question must be asked:  “In the conservative state of Kansas, is Liberal liberal?”  I suspect the question has two answers: “No.”  “And Hell No.” Passed 2,500 feet in elevation.  That puts us over halfway to Colorado; elevationally speaking. Stopped for the night at Scott State Park.Didn’t get the whole park to ourselves this time.  Not a problem. 2015 summer trip map A tree-full of cedar waxwings. Happy Anniversary to us!
