We saw Broad-billed Hummingbirds.
We saw Acorn Woodpeckers.
Mexican Jays.
White-breasted Nuthatches.
Red-naped Sapsucker.Bridled Titmice.Dark-eyed Junco.Yellow-eyed Junco. But no White-eared Hummingbird. We gave it a good shot. We stayed there for hours. No-one saw a White-eared Hummingbird all day. Ah well. On to our next victim. Maybe we’ll get an Elegant Trogon.

…but it’s time to move on. There is a woodpecker with our name on it. Well, not literally, but there is a woodpecker we mean to see down in the Tucson area. We’re going to camp next to Madera Canyon and stay there until we find the Arizona Woodpecker. The Arizona Woodpecker lives in Madera Canyon. (He lives other places too, but I’ve been watching online and that’s where the most consistent sightings are right now.) We’ve been in his habitat before but haven’t managed to cross paths. This time it’s time.
What it sounds like in the morning: cave creek regional park, quail, doves, and sparrows But now we’ve moved on. We’re at Canyon Vista RV Resort in Gold Canyon, AZ visiting with Rick and Sherikay. 2014 summer/fall trip map …and another desert sunset.
