Lunch with John B. and Kip

Lunch with John B. and KipJohnny and I were kids together in Southern California.  We skim-boarded on the beach.  We walked and talked late into the night.  We played folk guitars and sang.  We joined the Army together.  We went our separate ways, running in to each other from time-to-time. Judy and I moved to Colorado and made candles. Johnny moved to Colorado and played in an electric folk country rock band; Slumgullion. Johnny became the Red Baron.  I became an accountant. All these years.  All our separate adventures.  We’re still great friends and make it a point to see each other every year now.

We relocated

2014 summer/fall trip map …to Boulder County Fairgrounds. There is a funny thing about campgrounds near big cities (like Denver).  They clear out on Friday mornings.  It’s a pattern we recognize for any state parks near big cities. It’s not that people are tired of being at State parks on Fridays; it’s about how the reservation system works.  A certain amount of time in advance, commonly six months, reservations open up.  Local people who can plan out their summers ahead of time reserve the weekends.  The weekends sell out fast.  All the rest of the week is wide open for long distance travelers like Judy and me that don’t want to plan that specifically that far in advance.  We have to plan way ahead of time and get our reservations in, or stay here during the week and find other accommodations on the weekends.  So many of the big rigs and fifth-wheels pull out on Fridays and a whole bunch of tents, bumper-pulls, and tent trailers set up for Friday and Saturday, leaving Sunday. We had reservations well ahead of time for the month of September.  Extending our stay into October, we didn’t have advance reservations for the weekend.  We’re glad the fairgrounds are here.  We got the last hookup spot. Today’s birds:  Wilson’s Snipe and Bufflehead duck. Today’s bugs:  Praying Mantis and Leaf Bug.

I was abducted by space aliens

I don’t remember a thing, of course.  I know it happened though, because I found the injection site on my wrist where they gave me the shot that made it so I can’t remember anything.  Meanwhile,The white stuff is creeping closer. The low last night was in the 30s. We’re going to need to creep south soon ourselves if we want to stay white-stuff-free.

Judy’s surgery

…went just fine.  It was day-surgery, but it took all day.  We got out of the hospital at 5, picked up the dogs from boy’s-camp, picked up Maui Bowl dinners at Wahoo Fish Taco, and were home before 7. The surgeon removed an angry benign lymph node from close to Judy’s underarm.  It was good to get it out and confirm it wasn’t anything worse.  Morning mist at St Vrain State Park. …and a nice sunset.

Plans change

Originally we were only going to be in Colorado for 4 weeks.  After seeing as many doctors as we did this trip though, we had follow-up appointments that had to be scheduled for the first part of week 5, so we extended.  Two on Monday, one on Tuesday, and one on Wednesday.  We got the all-clear from every one of them except for the last one this afternoon.  The Ophthalmologist says my left eye is just right.  The Dermatologist says the surgery on my face is healing just right.  The Cardiologist says Judy’s heart is just fine; there is no blockage and no treatment necessary.  All we needed was clearance from Charlie Jones and we would be gone tomorrow. We’re going to stay a few extra days and get a lump out.  The radiologist says it nothing significant.  The surgeon, Charlie Jones, thinks it’s nothing significant.  Charlie also said if it wasn’t better in another month he would recommend taking it out though.  Well, since we’re not going to be here in another month we decided to just get it out tomorrow.  A few days of recovery, a last check up on Monday, and we should be good to go. But then again, plans have been known to change.
