Sometimes we make decisions

Sometimes the decisions make us. We decided what should happen with the motorhome.  It didn’t, so we went with it.  The return from consignment went flawlessly; no hard feelings.  We drove south to Texana State Park and stopped for the day in time for lunch.  We took our time moving back in with all the stuff we had packed into the minivan.  We savored the moment. It feels so good to be back in the bus.  The decision made itself and we are thrilled with how it turned out!

A 350 mile drive in the minivan

…to Houston.  With a stopover in Corpus Christi.  Jon called last night and told us about a Bar-tailed Godwit in Oso Bay.  First Texas sighting ever of a Bar-tailed Godwit.  Normally it’s an Asian, African, Indian, Australian, and New Zealand kind of bird.  It doesn’t belong in Texas at all.  We couldn’t pass that up, and found a very cooperative bird at noon, feeding with a group of Marbled Godwits relatively close to the shoreline. Got him.  Then we finished off out trip to Houston with a stop at the Hot Bowl for dinner.  Our favorite Houston food. My evening walk near the hotel was along a busy road paralleled by a train track.  I wasn’t surprised by the freight train in the middle of town, or the horn when it blew, until I realized that the train horn wasn’t coming from the train, it was coming from the crossing equipment at the intersection.  A horn-silent train, with the noise of a horn blowing at the perfect time for every intersection.  How about that? We’re all getting older; some of us faster than others.  Poor Annie is having to do it at dog-speed.  The rear end isn’t keeping up with the front end so well now.  She is still a happy healthy dog, but she’s having trouble getting around.  No more jumping.  We’re about through being able to do stairs too. We’re all here in Houston together, Judy, me, and the dogs.  We’re scheduled to pick up the motorhome tomorrow morning and all start toward home together.

Plans change

Remember the plan about selling the motorhome and downsizing?  Well, scratch that. We haven’t found a smaller one we want/can afford.  We’ve been motorhomeless for three months.  The motorhome is still at the consignment lot in Houston and hasn’t sold.  The sales contract was for 90 days.  Enough of that; we’re driving to Houston tomorrow to pick up our rig and drive it home to Edinburg.  We want it back.  We want to take a trip to Colorado in September and spend some more time with our kids. We might still downsize, but not this year.  Maybe next year. Plans change.

The great Pacific Northwest trip

We got out and around a little while we were there,  Christie’s Wedding trip map …but the primary purpose of this trip was Christie’s wedding.  I wasn’t the wedding photographer so I could just wander around and shoot whatever I wanted. They set up in the yard at their house for the ceremony. …with flowers galore. Christie decorated her own cake the day before. Kyle played the keyboard during the ceremony.  Cameron walked his mom out. The girls (Kylie and Bella) walked their dad out. I discreetly snapped a couple pictures during the ceremony.  Not a dry eye in the house during vows.  Later I got to take pictures of people getting their pictures taken (while my camera was sometimes blinded by the sun).     I also got to take pictures of people getting blinded by the sun.  …as said before, a good time was had by all.
