Houston, we have a problem

We finished sticking all the states on the map.  Now we’re done. …but we went to some of those states before we started keeping records of our bird sightings.  When I look at the states in which we’ve recorded birds, we still have three to go! Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana…. Oh No…

Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band

Saturday Night Parade.  An annual tradition. For 65 years, every summer Saturday night, they play.  All pipers and drummers who happen to be in the area are welcomed.  They have hosted musicians from all over the world.  No pre-arrangement necessary; the only requirement is proper dress.  Show up and play. At dusk, the band marches down the street.  The crowd follows behind as the band passes and becomes part of the parade. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiqS8ien8FA There were thousands on that little street! After a pause at the other end of town, the band turns around and marches back again.  With their lights on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWQK8oBRoFY With all the people following back the other way (including us this time) they march back to the town park.  There, they play for another half hour before adjourning to the local pub.  An intoxicating crowd energy. An historic little town of 11,000 on the shores of Lake Huron.  Nicely done Kincardine, Ontario.

Niagara Falls

We liked the falls the first day.  They were worth going back for on the second day.  Instead of being done and ready to move on after the second day, we were just getting more drawn in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuxgOuZIH5A There is no way to communicate the sensory delight of being there; the roar and the mist.  It’s addictive.  But we’ve moved on.  We’re at Barb and Henry’s house, Point Clark, Ontario. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=201563872774147443355.0004e02f0c80f1461c0bf&msa=0&ll=42.964463,-76.937256&spn=5.426063,13.392334 Safely tucked away in their driveway.
