OMG
Thursday. I just remembered. Thursday was Queer’s Day when I was in High School. If you wore green and yellow on Thursday, that meant you were queer. What a concept! A guy actually had to pay attention to what day it was and what he wore on that day. I think the penalty for wearing green and yellow on Thursday was a slug in the shoulder. Of course, nobody you knew was actually queer. How times and consciousness have changed since then. Now, if you don’t know someone who is gay, then you’re just not paying attention. Being gay is (mostly) no longer considered to be a choice that should be punished. It just is. Some people are, some aren’t. I wonder though if it is as terrifying to adolescent boys now, just coming to terms with their own sexuality, to think that they might be gay, as it was for adolescent boys back then to think they might be “queer”. I hope not.
Wow
Hump Day already. The week is almost over! The motorhome is at a shop in Mission getting a couple minor repairs and a body and paint estimate for the damage I did when I sank it in the mud last winter. We’ll get it back by the end of the week and drive to San Antonio on Sunday, then back to Corpus on Tuesday for a Wednesday appointment with Judy’s doctor. They’ll cut the cast off Judy’s arm and we’ll be good to go back home to Edinburg and continue the rehab. (I think her rehab is going to be doing all the cooking, cleaning, dishes, gardening, folding clothes, and taking out the trash!) We’ll see how that goes… Got the kingfisher trifecta recently. All three North American kingfishers at the same spot on the same visit. That doesn’t happen often. Scored big time today. The fall migration has started heating up. The spring migration is concentrated, with all the birds headed north in a crazy blur. The fall migration, with all the birds headed back down south is different. It’s a little more relaxed and spread out. I can wait here and try to catch some of the migrants I missed on the way up. Today I picked up the Kentucky warbler and the Mourning warbler at the Frontera Audubon thicket in Weslaco. A good day.
Full disclosure
Beach Volleyball. I totally understand what they were doing… …but that didn’t make me look away. At least I thought I knew what they were doing. I did a little google research; I looked up the uniform rules for beach volleyball. Men are required to wear tank tops and shorts. The women have options. They can choose the two piece bikini and crop top we saw so much of (or so little of) in the Olympics. They can play in a one piece suit. They can wear tank tops and shorts. They can wear full T-shirts and mid length shorts. They can wear long sleeved shirts and long pants. Here I suspected that all of us, women *and* men, were just being manipulated by promoters and media in a totally transparent effort to grab our attention and boost ratings. It turns out the women players wear those two piece bikinis because they choose to! Apparently having less places for sand to hide is a big deal.
Did anyone else notice?
Donald Trump, in his meeting with the Mexican President; he was wearing bobby pins on the back of his hair. I noticed it at the time and thought that’s what I saw. I googled it after, and sure enough, that’s what it was; bobby pins.
Not that it means anything. His hairdo *is* elaborate. I suppose he combs his hair and uses bobby pins to hold it in place while the spray dries. Since we don’t normally see bobby pins, he must have just forgotten to take them out this time.
