Brazos Bend State Park

Here we are.  Again.  Love this place. …and when we arrive, we find Barb and Henry camped next to us! They’ve left Sandpipers and are stopping over on their way north.  Time for them to go back to Canada.  They had a snow removal service plow their driveway so they’ll have a place to park when they get home. We’ll just stay here.

High Island

We’ve been here in fair weather for a week.  Last night it got windy and rainy.  It was cold and blustery this morning.  The change in weather resulted in our first good migrant day.  With kingbirds, vireos, martins, swallows, thrushes, warblers, tanagers, grosbeaks, buntings, and orioles, 35 migrants in one day.  It was great fun.  18 new year-birds just today.  Tomorrow morning we head off for Brazos Bend State Park for a few days.

The Rookery

There is a rookery across the road from us.  It’s loaded with Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Cattle Egrets, Neotropic Cormorants, Roseate Spoonbills.  Hundreds of each.        It looks and sounds like this:  http://youtu.be/e-zeLAqD6sg …and while we were watching all these egrets and spoonbills… A Magnificent Frigatebird flew right overhead.
