Not a bad spot
…for morning coffee.
The weather is fine. It’s a good spot for a little work/a little walking… ….and wondering “Why did the turtle cross the road?”
I have no idea.
But I do know that this guy didn’t want any help doing it.
We (very carefully) carried him across the road to the ditch he was aspiring to. He is a snapping turtle and know what? Snapping turtles have very flexible necks, and they’re very strong. Good thing my fingers were way at the back of the shell. Well, all our digits still intact, he’s on the other side of the road and we went walking on our way.

A little tighter than most of the places we stay. It’s nice enough though, because we’re not here for the park ambiance. Were here because High Island is a popular stopover for migrant birds. There are five different preserves in the immediate area and the RV Park is right across the street from one of them. It seems like a nice place to spend a week.

I’m reminded of an exchange we had with some people here years ago when we were first full-timing. There is a canal-home neighborhood adjacent to the park. We were paddling the kayaks through it at sunset. There were some people out on an open-air deck, having a glass of wine, watching the sunset. We exchanged waves. A conversation ensued. We admired how nice it must be to have a spot like that to sit and watch the sunset every night. They admired how nice it must be to have a house that goes anywhere and kayaks you can paddle around in the evening watching the sunset. We were so busy
….messing around with kidney stones last year, we mostly missed the spring migration on the coast. We want to be sure to see some of it this year, so today we headed north. https://www.google.com/maps/ms?msid=201563872774147443355.0004f5c9c5b0e49cef6d5&msa=0&ll=32.509762,-91.472168&spn=13.709429,26.784668 We’re at Goose Island State Park for a couple days.
