Monday

A visit with the McKees in Louisville.  On to the optometrist in Longmont to pick up Judy’s new glasses.  A stop at the grocery store.  A quick look in a pond north of Longmont for a Barrow’s Goldeneye.  Drive back to Chatfield.  Unhook the motorhome, hook up the Jeep, and we were on the road by 3:30.  Stopped for the night south of Colorado Springs at 5:00. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=205131835882428706345.0004eac8c9eefa867949b&msa=0&ll=36.421282,-102.392578&spn=13.070765,26.784668 Forecast low for us tonight, 33 degrees.  We’re ahead of the arctic front.  We’re set up for a good day south into New Mexico tomorrow.

A strategic withdrawl

We hung out with our kids.  We were here for the baby’s birth.  We stayed for two Thanksgiving Dinners.  We were going to stay for another week and go to the Taylor, Roth and Company Christmas Dinner, but there are sub-zero temperatures in the forecast.  Sorry to miss the dinner, but we’re going to beat a hasty retreat south ahead of the front.  With any luck we’ll get wrapped up here and get started south by Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.

Thanksgiving at Becky and Brian’s

Yesterday (Saturday). Our entire branch of the Taylor Clan. The guys.  The gals. Carving the turkey. The dinner.(All that champagne is actually sparkling cider for the kids.) The hosts. Brian and Arie. Taylor and Arie. Tony and Arie. Arie. Arie awake! We think she’s losing that newborn look already. Rags the Cat.  It was a delight visiting with everyone, especially the two older kids who have been away.  Taylor was so excited about her human osteology class, she could barely even tell us about it.  She has an almost complete skeleton from a turn of the century unauthorized cemetery at a Colorado Insane Asylum.  It’s a really interesting set of bones because they’re so distinctive.  She has a very large man with lots of broken bones and signs of wear to provide clues about how old he was, how tall he was, whether he was right or left handed, if he walked normally or with a limp, and all the things that happened to him in his life. The quote of the day however, goes to Tony.  Home from college, at one point (apparently) wandering aimlessly around the house, he was asked to help with something.  He responded that he was busy. “Busy?  Busy with what?” “I’m practicing thinking in Swedish.” You just never know what to expect…

Breaking out the bassinette

…the bassinet given to my parents by my Dad’s parents in 1937 in celebration of my oldest brother’s birth.  It gets passed from family to family and generation to generation.  We keep a list of all the kids since then and have now added Arie’s name to it; number 31.

Thanksgiving

…at Matt and Lindsay’s house. Even though we’re going to do Thanksgiving again up at Brian and Becky’s house on Saturday, we didn’t pace ourselves. We ate it all.
